I'm with Germaine
I don't understand this. I absolutely agree with this though.
Steve Irwin - colourful character, yes - national icon and a shining example to all Australians? Please!!!!

Life in London for a not-quite-middle-aged gay Australian guy. Oh, the glamour of it all!

I couldn't agree more! A nice guy, who was fun to watch, although not for too long if you know what I mean! But "a country in mourning"? Crikey!
oh come on. Germaine Greer sucks my balls.
although I wasn't a huge Irwin fan, it was incredibly insensitive and disrespectful to his family to be such a bitch the day (or perhaps the day after) he died.
anyway - how was sitges??
Sitges was fun, and sunny. And it was hotter than yesterday's 'scorcher' here.
I don't hinkk there was nything offensive about GG' article, taken in it's context (1 article in the guardian praising Irwin, her's damning him). That's the price you pay for living your life in the public eye, and to be honesy I gfound him embarassing as an australian. The unfortuanate circumstances of his death aside, I can't say I'll miss him.
